Honouring Our Children: Remembering Their Names
June 2022
In June, Laura Holland travelled to lək̓ʷəŋən and WSÁNEĆ territory, joining Martha Martin’s annual memorial “Honouring Our Children: Remember Their Names.” This walk, organized by Martha Martin, the mother of Chantel Moore, brought together families from Turtle Island, who marched on the BC Legislature to bring attention to the deaths of their children at the hands of police. The rally at the legislature brought together the Martin Family (family of Chantel Moore & Mike Martin) as well as families of Jermaine Carby, Anthony Aust, Regis Korchinski-Paquet, Julian Jones.

No Justice No Peace
January 8th is the 6 month anniversary of the brutal murder of Jared Lowndes by the RCMP
In the 6 months since Jared's murder, despite regular actions, letters, campagins, and pressure the family of Jared Lowndes have not found justice for the murder of their son, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. RCMP and all Police forces must not only be held accuntable for murder and violence we must radically reimagine they way we as communities keep ourselves safe.
Take Action with a Month of Street Art in Solidarity with Jared and all Victims of Police Violence
We invite you and all your friends to join us in a month of Street Art demanding Justice fo Jared, and remembering all loved ones lost to Police and State violence.
One murder at the hands of the police is too many. One assault at the hands of police is too many. One incident of harassment by the police is too many.
In the face of ever escalating police violence against Indigenous, Black, Disabled and other targeted communities we say NO MORE! In the face of ever growing police budgets impoverishing our communities we say DEFUND THE POLICE!
Abolishing the police and Demanding Justice is an act of Love, Hope, and Imagination!

Action for October
Write to The Attorney General and IIO and tell them No More police dogs!
Use our sample letter and write to the Attorney General David Eby and Chief Civilian Director of the IIO Ronald MacDonald.
Bites sustained from police dogs happen every 2 days in so-called British Columbia. These bites cause horrible damage and can result in severe injuries and even death. We believe in a world free from the violence of policing and no more animals used as weapons of colonial violence.

What is the IIO?
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of British Columbia, often called the “Police Watchdog” by the press, is intended to be an objective body with the task of investigating police actions following a serious incident that results in death or harm when a police officer may have been involved. The IIO is made up of 28 investigators, half of whom are former police officers. Despite this clear conflict of interest, their investigations are considered objective. Only 10% of investigations into police conduct by oversight bodies result in charges against officers. There is no appeal process. We demand real accountability and consequences for cops who kill.
